Government of Jammu and Kashmir Invites Applications for Handicraft Artisans' Scholarship Scheme
The Office of the Assistant Director of Handicrafts, Srinagar, has issued an important notice for all registered handicraft artisans in District Srinagar. Artisans are encouraged to avail themselves of the scholarship benefits for their children's education under the Education Scheme.
Application Process
Prescribed application forms will be available free of cost starting from January 7, 2025. Artisans can collect these forms from the Office of the Assistant Director of Handicrafts, Srinagar, or from concerned Handicrafts Block Offices. Alternatively, forms can be downloaded from the official Instagram account (@hhsrinagar) or the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HHSrinagar).
The deadline for submitting applications is January 25, 2025, and forms must be submitted to the respective offices.
Scholarship Amounts
Eligible children of artisans can receive the following scholarships:
1. Up to Primary Education: ₹1,500 per student per year.
2. 6th to 10th Class: ₹2,000 per student per year.
3. 11th to 12th Class: ₹3,000 per student per year.
4. Technical/Professional Education: As per the actual course fee fixed by the government.
Each artisan can apply for scholarships for a maximum of two children.
Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a registered artisan/weaver with the Handicrafts and Handloom Department and possess a valid registration card/certificate.
- Belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL), PHH, or AAY categories, or hold an Economic Weaker Section (EWS) certificate.
- Have an annual family income of less than ₹90,000, with proof provided by a 1st Class Magistrate or Tehsildar.
- Submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned Zonal Educational Officer and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer.
- For children enrolled in professional courses, the original fee receipts must be attached to the application form.
Important Note
Children who have already availed themselves of scholarships from any other department for the current financial year (2024-2025) are not eligible to apply.
